tried a few shareware programs that were ok and then found this online
service, OCR Terminal.

It worked really well.  The accuracy was almost 100% but more
importantly, it kept the formatting of the text in the original image.
I then tried a PDF file that a client had sent.  It was composed of
text, images and a lot of formatting and it was locked so I could not
select the text to copy.  OCR Terminal scanned the PDF and then I
saved to Word and the results were great.  It kept the formatting of
the text, lists, columns, text size and color.
